  Overview  
     
  With a pair of CLR-STF-Rx serial to fiber optical self-healing double-ring modems, any two pieces of serial equipment wich have RS232, RS422 or RS485 can communicate at half or full duplex speeds over two fiber cores at rates up to 460 kbps for RS-422/485 or 115.2 kbps for RS-232. Fiber lines are insensitive to EMI/RFI and transient surges, so they are ideal for data communications near heavy electrical equipment and other electrical or radio interference.

A Self-Healing Ring (also called Double Ring or Counter-Rotating Ring) topology provides maximum fault tolerance and network flexibility.

It consists of two data paths, Ring A and Ring B, with each data path running in an opposite direction to the other.

Under normal operation only the primary data path (Ring A) is used. When there is fault (cable or failed device), the data path will turn around before it reaches the fault of failed unit and use the secondary data path to complete the link.
